Other Sex Offenses
There are a lot of offenses
that can land a person on a
sex offender registry.
From asking a girl if she
wants a ride, to urinating in
public, to kids playing
doctor, to mooning a
school bus.  These are
hardly crimes that should
ruin the rest of a person's
life. Our current laws must
be reformed before
everyone finds themselves
being called a "Sex
Offender."
No one crime fits ‘sex
offender' label
The terminology “sex offender” brings to
mind deviant men who sexually abuse
children. This isn’t always the case and is
a smaller population of registered sex
offenders.

Several sex crimes can lead to someone
having to register.

Some include: “Exposing; (i.e., relieving
yourself in public; mooning, being naked in
your house, having the curtains open and
being seen); sending naked pictures
through cell phones and a minor seeing it
(called “sexting,” a rising crime today
among all ages, especially youth); and
young adults age 18 to 22 having
consensual sex with their 16- and 17-year
old boyfriend or girlfriend, to name a few.

'Sex Offender' Label
Makes No Distinction
Hundreds of young men like him are
casualties of Texas' zero-tolerance sex
offender registration laws. Despite low-
level sex offenses, they're cataloged as
perverts, as monsters, by a system that
paints most sex criminals with the same
broad brush.

An 11-year-old who fondles a 10-year-old
classmate could be forced to register as a
sex offender for a decade. An 18-year-old
who's more than three years older than his
girlfriend could spend a lifetime on the
registry for having consensual sex with her.

And once they're on the list, these young
sex offenders are virtually boxed out of
society – unable to find jobs and housing,
and trapped in a vicious cycle of evictions,
registration violations and more jail time.

There's the girl who bared her ass out a
bus window in college and pled guilty to
indecent exposure -- and then couldn't
become an elementary school teacher
because of her sex offense. Then there's
the guy who peed on a bush in a park and
was convicted of public lewdness, a sex
offender because he couldn't find a
bathroom.

Unfortunately, it's not technically legal to
make discreet love in public spaces, even
in your truck, even if it has a camper shell
with dark windows and Liberator furniture,
even if no one can see you without
pressing his nose to the glass or hoisting
her children up over her head.

Could You End Up
on a Sex Offender Registry?
Urinating In
Public
Exposes
Flaw In Law
A New Hampshire lawmaker said laws
against public urination in public exposes
a flaw in the law . . . because indecent
exposure is a sex offense, multiple
convictions could land habitual public
urinators on a sex offender registry.

Public urination shouldn't
lead to sex offender status
Starting next year, urinating in public could
land you on the sex offender registry. But
two state lawmakers are trying to make
sure that doesn't happen. While there
should be a law against public urination,
he said, the penalty should fit the crime.
Sex offenders must live with numerous
restrictions: they're not allowed to live near
schools, they often can't coach youth
sports, and they're not allowed to stay in
homeless shelters, Shurtleff said.

In 13 states you’ll be added to the sex
offenders register for “urinating in public
(in two of which, only if a child was
present)."

Do you think it can't happen to
you? We do not know the true
intent here, but the point is . . .
NEVER ask someone if they
want a ride.
